MY INTERNSHIP WITH FLEET STREET & THE THINGS I HAVE LEARNT

Before I began my internship with Fleet Street, I did all the usual things one may do; research the agency, familiarise myself with their clients, and ask as many questions as possible.

But in all honesty, I was still quite nervous and didn’t know what to expect. Looking back, there was no need to be, and I can safely say my time with Fleet Street has been invaluable — a truly eye-opening experience that has not only boosted my confidence but also deepened my passion for the industry.

During my time with Fleet Street, I wasn’t just introduced to consumer and trade PR, but I also gained practical skills – such as clipping, reporting and logging coverage – which meant I was able to assist the team with a variety of different tasks. I learnt how to use design software like Adobe InDesign to create content for a clients’ Instagram page, and Canva, enabling me to distribute an agency-wide newsletter that kept the team informed of the latest hospitality stories.

I had the opportunity and privilege of attending and representing Fleet Street at industry events. The first of these being The National Pub & Bar Awards 2025, where I witnessed top talent being celebrated as dedicated individuals from pubs and pubcos across the UK were recognised for their excellence. Subsequently, I corresponded with the H2O Publishing’s editorial director, providing coverage updates in the wake our press release. In addition to this, I was present at MCA Live’s Pub Conference, liaising with CEOs whilst gaining precious insight from guest speakers and panellists of the highest calibre from across the sector.

To help launch the reopening of a new eatery in Norwich, I contacted influencers based in the area via Instagram, alongside calling local businesses inviting them with special offers. Their warm reception to this outreach displayed the importance of building relationships within a community and promotional channels via social media.

I’d like to finish this blog by extending my heartfelt gratitude to all my colleagues at Fleet Street. Everyone went out of their way to welcome me when I arrived, made me feel part of the team and therefore I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working here. The team are clearly dedicated to their work and do their upmost to achieve the best results for their clients which is amazing to see. If anyone is currently a student like myself, wishing to get involved in the world of PR, I cannot recommend inquiring with Fleet Street enough.
